Toshimaru Nakamura

Toshimaru Nakamura

Since 1994, Toshimaru Nakamura frequently visited Europe, worked and performed in various projects. In the course of these visits, Nakamura has formed the duo "repeat" with an American drummer, Jason Kahn in 1998. They released their first CD in the same year, and continuing working. Up until now, the duo has four CDs released.

Nakamura put aside his guitar around 1998, and concentrated more on producing electronic music. He acquired a unique instrument and style, with the so called "no-input mixing board". He presented it first in the CD of the duo with Sachiko M.

Beside all this, has been working with the Bagnolet Choreogaraphy Competition winning dancer Kim Ito as a composer/sound designer for his theater works since 1996. The works has been performed in Japan, USA, England, France, Germany, Israel and more...

Nakamura has been organising and hosting a monthly improvised music gathering at "Bar Aoyama", now change its place to the gallery OFF SITE, with guitarists Taku Sugimoto and Tetuzi Akiyama since 1998. Inviting guest musicians, it has been growing as an important meeting point in the Tokyo improvised/experimental music scene.

Nakamura has been active in these years with appearances in overseas festivals and tours in Europe, Australia, New Zealand and North America. He has released many CDs including four solo discs.
